What's new?

Pragmatic design

To modern standards the hull is not wide. With a sharp entree above the waterline and balanced waterlines fore and aft, the waterlines when heeled will be parallel with the keel. That will enhance the upwind sailing performance. The boat has a spacious cockpit with open aft. In the peak you can store lots of luggage of a crew of four. Deck and hull are constructed from only two parts glued together. The buns for motor and keel profides structural stiffness. Scants, webs and stringers are not needed.

Outboard motor inside

The motor is mounted in a bun midships. To ease manoeuvering on motor, the outboard throttle has been replaced by a morsesystem. The bun protects the outboard motor for damaging and the screw is always in the water. The blocks for the mainsheet are mounted on the bun, so it's easy to use the camcleats. The motor is always ready to use when needed in crowdy circumstances. If you don't want the resistance of the screw when sailing, especially when you want the maximum speed under genaker, just leave the motor behind and choose the Win version.

Undeep, long, retractable keel

With a draft less than 90 centimetres, it's possible to sail on the prettiest parts of the Frisian lakes and move your way upwind in a narrow canal. The keel is long so it's effective even when the boat isn't at speed. Also at windshifts the boat will react less hectic. Although a deep, small keel is the most effective on deep-water and high waves, they are not suitebale for shallowed waters. With a draft of only 90 centimetres the Keus 22 delivers a well sailing boat for shallow and deep waters, because of a well designed hull and keel. And sure, with a deep keel, you can make very good stability statisics when the boots heels 90 degrees. But under normal sailing conditions, boats of the length of the Keus 22 are sailed by 30 degrees max. Then the weight of the crew is much more important then the weight of the keel. For trailering, we made the keel retractable with a little crane on board.
